Tax Deadline for Palm Beach County Businesses
West Palm Beach, FL – Anne Gannon, Constitutional Tax Collector, reminds area business owners that tomorrow is the last day to pay 2015 local business taxes without penalties. In July 101,291 local businesses received 2015 tax renewal bills. “All businesses, including one-person and home-based, that provide services or merchandise to the public must pay local business tax,” said Gannon. The Tax Collector issues a Local Business Tax Receipt upon payment. The law requires the Receipt be displayed where customers can see it.
Business owners can save time and pay online. E-checks are free. Credit card vendors charge a convenience fee per transaction. Payments can also be made by mail or at a service center. Another way to save time is to deposit payments in a lobby drop box at a service location. The Lantana and PGA offices do not accept local business taxes.
Taxes paid after September 30 are delinquent and subject to a $250 civil penalty plus court and attorney fees. In addition, monthly penalties are as follows:
October 1 = 10% penalty
November 1 = 15% penalty
December 1 = 20% penalty + $10.00 collection fee
January 1 = 25% penalty + $10.00 collection fee
Local Business Tax Receipts are mandated in Florida Law, Chapter 205 and Palm Beach County Ordinance, Chapter 17, Article 2. Anyone suspecting a business is avoiding taxes is encouraged to report it by completing a short form available at www.pbctax.com.
